Departing from your point of stay, an expert certified guide by the Jewish congregation and the World Federation of Tourist Guide Association, will first take you to Beth Haim Jewish cemetery, the oldest one of the western hemisphere, consecrated in the 17th century, when the first family of Sephardic Jews arrived in Curacao.
After exploring the particular graves, different to the old world styles, we whisk you off to the new Jewish village of Mahaai, located at the north-east side of the island. You will wonder how they formed their new community, when they moved from the downtown area, to seek for more natural habitat in the mid of the 20th century.
The guide will also point out the new Ashkenazi Synagogue, build in this millennium to accommodate the members of Mahaai.
Then we are ready for the ultimate highlight of this excursion, when we head to the Mikveh Israel Emanuel Synagogue, the oldest in constant use of the western hemisphere. Once inside this impressive temple, you will learn all details about the rituals and why the floor is covered with sand.
